Eventbrite fees in the US, explained

Eventbrite charges a 3.7% + $1.79 service fee per ticket plus a 2.9% payment processing fee on the order. Buyers pay both by default, so a $50 ticket costs $55.20 and the organizer receives $50. Free events are free.

How much does Eventbrite charge per ticket?

Eventbrite's two fees stack: the 2.9% processing fee is charged on the ticket price plus the service fee. Because $1.79 of the service fee is fixed, cheap tickets carry the highest fees in percentage terms.

One ticket per order, before sales tax. Eventbrite also charges its processing fee on any tax collected. On Tickify the organizer keeps the full ticket price and payment processing is included in the 5%. Try your own numbers in the US fee calculator.

Who pays Eventbrite's fees?

By default, the buyer. Eventbrite adds the service and processing fees to the ticket price, and US buyers see the all-in price on listings and at checkout. The organizer receives the full ticket price.

Organizers can choose to absorb the fees so buyers pay only the ticket price. Then the fees come out of each sale: on a $50 ticket you net $44.91, and on a $10 ticket you net $7.55.

What are the hidden costs on Eventbrite?

  • Processing on top of fees. The 2.9% processing fee applies to the whole order, including Eventbrite's service fee and any tax.
  • Fixed fee on cheap tickets. The $1.79 per ticket is the same on a $5 ticket as on a $500 one. On a $10 ticket, fees add $2.51, a quarter of the price.
  • Paying for early access to your money. Instant payouts before the event cost 3% per payout (minimum $2.99, maximum $40).
  • Reserve held until the event. When you take payouts before the event, Eventbrite holds 20% of net sales in reserve, and pre-event payouts are capped at $100,000.
  • Marketing is extra. Email marketing to your attendees (Eventbrite Pro) is a separate subscription from $15 a month.

When does Eventbrite pay you?

Eventbrite sends your final payout about 3 days after the event. Eligible US organizers who have already hosted a paid event can switch on scheduled payouts or request instant payouts before the event, with 20% of net sales held in reserve and a 3% fee on instant payouts.

On Tickify you're paid through Stripe to your own bank account after the event, and early payouts are available on request.

How to avoid Eventbrite fees

On paid Eventbrite tickets you can only choose who pays the fees, not avoid them. Your options:

  • +Pass the fees to buyers (the default), so you keep the full ticket price but buyers pay more.
  • +Absorb the fees, so buyers pay the ticket price and you net less.
  • +Run free events, which Eventbrite doesn't charge for.
  • +Use a platform with a lower fee, so buyers pay less and you still keep the full ticket price.

On 500 tickets at $50, Eventbrite buyers pay $2,600 in fees. On Tickify they pay $1,250, and you still receive the full $25,000. Compare more options in Eventbrite alternatives.
